NEW !!!

1881 Census index for all of Scotland!!

Gives Name-Age and Address of all Hoy's living in Scotland in 1881!!

If anyone out there wants to help by transcribing records from your area (all you need is a PC and time)...I would be very happy to hear from you...my fingers are starting to blister from all of the keying ;)!!

This site is growing fast....please be patient while I construct new pages to keep up with all of the information!! Thanks!!

Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart.

My name is Robbi Hoy and I have been doing research for just under 20 years. I just can not get enough of these Hoys. When I am stuck on my line...I begin researching others that are in no way related!! I am hoping that we can start compiling information on the Hoy family from all of the different countries!! Make this a data base for all Hoys no matter if they are Scottish, English, American, Irish or Australian!!

I am also hoping that by doing this, we can find others who might hold a missing key!!

This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.

My findings so far!!
When I started this site, I was almost certain that most of the Hoy's will find their branches back to Scotland and the Isle of Hoy. I am finding now that this is not the case. I have discovered Hoy's in England before the unification of the countries. This does not mean that the English Hoy's were not from Scotland, it just makes it less likely. As for the Irish Hoy's, I have discovered that most of them came from Scotland and moved to Ireland when the English government sent many Scots Presbytarians to populate that country. The Aussies are a bit like the U.S. and Canada. Many Hoy's were sent to these countries as convicts or just to start a new life.
The search continues...will keep you posted!!
Update...a few people have written about Hoy's living in other countries (i.e Germany, Denmark, France, China). I am aware that there are Hoy's all over the world, but as of this date, most of the records I find are from the UK. I will add more info on other countries as I find them.

I do want to thank David Hoy who introduced me to his sister Joan!! Thanks so very much. I know we may not be related, but hey-you are Hoy's!!
